Self-Massage Techniques for Men — Relieve Tension on Your Own

Self-massage is a valuable complement to exchange sessions. These techniques help you maintain the benefits of bodywork between sessions, relieve acute tension, and deepen your understanding of what feels good for your partners.

    Neck and Shoulders

Place your fingertips on the trapezius muscles (tops of shoulders) and squeeze gently. Use tennis balls against a wall to work the upper back — lean into the ball and roll slowly over tense areas. For the neck, use thumbs along the base of the skull.

    Hands, Arms, and Forearms

Especially important for massage practitioners. Squeeze and roll each finger. Press your thumb into the palm in circular motions. Use your thumb to strip the forearm from wrist to elbow. Shake out your hands vigorously between sessions.

    Legs and Feet

Roll a tennis ball under your foot for reflexology-style relief. Use a foam roller on your quadriceps, IT band, and calves. Knead your calves with both hands. For foot cramps, press firmly into the arch with your thumb.
