Deep Tissue Massage Guide for Men — Techniques & Pressure Tips
Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Using slow, firm strokes and focused pressure, it addresses chronic tension, knots, and adhesions that surface-level massage can't reach.
Understanding Deep Tissue Work
Unlike Swedish massage, deep tissue focuses on specific problem areas using sustained pressure. It works on the fascia, tendons, and muscle fibers beneath the surface. Proper technique is crucial — depth should come from body mechanics, not brute force.
Key Techniques
Stripping (deep gliding along muscle fibers) and friction (pressure across the grain of muscles) are the primary methods. Use thumbs, knuckles, elbows, and forearms to apply appropriate pressure. Always warm up the area with lighter work before going deep.
Safety and Communication
Deep tissue work requires excellent communication between partners. Pain should never exceed a 7 out of 10 on the discomfort scale. Watch for signs of tension (holding breath, clenching) and adjust accordingly. Some soreness after a session is normal.
