Massage for Headache Relief — Pressure Points & Techniques for Men

Tension headaches and migraines often respond well to massage. These techniques target the muscles and pressure points most commonly associated with headache pain — the neck, scalp, face, and shoulders.

    Neck and Suboccipital Release

The suboccipital muscles at the base of the skull are frequent headache triggers. With your partner face-up, cradle the head and use fingertips to apply sustained pressure under the skull ridge. Hold for 60-90 seconds as the muscles soften.

    Scalp and Temple Massage

Use fingertips in small circular movements across the entire scalp. Apply gentle pressure at the temples (circular motions). Press the LI4 point (between thumb and index finger) for 30-60 seconds — this is a powerful headache relief point.

    Preventive Techniques

Regular neck and shoulder massage reduces headache frequency. Focus on the upper trapezius, levator scapulae, and SCM muscles. Address forward-head posture through gentle stretching and awareness. Consistent weekly massage can significantly reduce tension headache occurrence.
