Hygiene Best Practices for Massage — Cleanliness Tips for Men Who Exchange Bodywork
Hygiene is non-negotiable in massage exchange. Clean practices protect both partners from infection and create a comfortable, professional environment that allows both people to relax and enjoy the experience.
Personal Hygiene
Shower immediately before every session. Use deodorant. Brush your teeth. Trim and clean your fingernails — long or dirty nails are a safety hazard and major turnoff. Remove all jewelry. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap before beginning. Avoid strong cologne or aftershave.
Equipment and Linens
Use freshly laundered sheets and towels for every session. Wash linens at 60°C minimum. Clean your massage table with disinfectant between partners. If using a mat, air it regularly and spot-clean after each use. Replace oils and lotions that have been open for more than 6 months.
Environmental Hygiene
Keep your massage space clean and tidy. Ensure good ventilation. Clean floors and surfaces regularly. Provide a clean space for your partner to change. Have hand sanitizer available. Keep a covered waste bin nearby for used tissues or wipes.
