Massage Aftercare Tips for Men — Recovery, Hydration & Post-Session Care
What you do after a massage is almost as important as the massage itself. Proper aftercare extends the benefits of your session and helps your body process the effects of bodywork.
Immediately After
Drink plenty of water — massage releases metabolic waste from muscles that needs to be flushed. Avoid heavy meals for at least an hour. Take a warm (not hot) shower if you feel oily. Rest for 15-30 minutes if possible. Avoid intense exercise for 24 hours.
The Next 24-48 Hours
Some soreness is normal after deep tissue work — like post-workout soreness. Stay hydrated. Gentle stretching helps. Apply heat (not ice) to sore areas. Rest well the night after a session. You may feel emotional or unusually relaxed — this is normal.
Maximizing Long-Term Benefits
Regular massage (weekly or biweekly) provides cumulative benefits. Note what techniques helped most. Maintain the relaxation with gentle self-care practices. Stretching between sessions preserves the gains made during bodywork.
